I have recently acquired some more French Women’s periodicals, from the Goubaud publishing house.
The Library of congress has a incomplete collection of Revue de La Mode, lavishly illustrated with colour plates. Originally, it was this collection that led me to collect “Etude de Coupe”, an irregular column on pattermaking. This column was first written by Alice Guerre, but in 1892 was taken over by “A Domage”– who may well have been the editorial director of the periodical Madame
In 1889, Revue de la Mode essentially merged with another Goubaud journal, Le Moniteur de la Mode, meaning that if one does not have access to an issue of one magazine, an issue of the other magazine may well suffice. I’ve also acquired a few issues of Moniteur from 1884 (deep inside the second bustle era), so that I might compare them to LOC’s Revue. Sadly I can’t afford the colour plates.
Hence, my recent collecting habits, and my contributions to the internet archive.
